random summer update

sitting in the porch letting the breeze cool the sunburn on my arms, should have known I would need sunscreen yesterday!

Summer is flying by, almost no sewing or quilting done but between quick trips to Cape Breton to meet our nephew, work and the ever present maintenance project of owning a house I'm not that surprised!

Looking forward to a visit from Mom and Dad in a bit over a week - a yard sale and a few small projects around the house will keep us entertained.

Meet Roger - our adorable nephew, who has a habit of looking away from the camera! He seems to like using teddy bears as floor pillows!

psst... I'm back!

and I should have realized that blogging regularly just wasn't going to happen! Only five months this time - who knows how long 'til the next....

It's been a busy fall and winter so far, work, school, quilting, etc... time seems to go by faster and faster as each day passes. Now that the days are getting longer again I seem to have more energy for things other than the necessities, so updating the blog it is!

I've actually managed to finish a few projects since my last post like this landscape I made on commission for a friend at work - it is based on a photograph of a lake near her family cottage in Ontario.

Another friend suggested I start putting together a portfolio of my work, I think she's right - I have pieces scatter all over the continent with various friends and family and I would like to have a record of them all. I do have a bad habit of giving things away without documenting them. This one I did keep for myself and even have a photo of it! Maybe that could be my new blog project, to keep track of all the things I make...hhmmmm I'll have to think about that.

time for the annual early fall cold/flu...

I seem to have acquired my annual early fall cold/flu - sore throat, nose and ears, chills and achy joints, just what I need three days before I go on vacation! Went to work this morning anyway, boss sent me home, didn't want me infecting anyone else *lol*

So, I had a lovely nap on the couch while watching Glee DVDs, finished a book I've been re-reading for the nth time and just finished hemming a couple of pairs of pants that have been in the to do pile for about 4 months now! Oddly enough whenever I get sick I end up being productive in the studio - probably because it distracts me from how miserable I feel and I can stop whenever I need to blow my nose or be otherwise disgusting. Plus, pjs are always a bonus.

Now, time for another nap to get up the energy to find something simple for supper while John does dishes. Hopefully I'll be feeling better in the morning, don't really want to miss another day this week.

not the weekend....

So I managed to miss my first (self-imposed) blogging deadline, nothing got posted this weekend! Ah well, I guess I'll just have to try again this week! I do have a small excuse, I've started the first course in an online human resources certificate program (HR is my "real" job) so I'm trying very hard to adjust back into an academic and self-disciplined mindset - especially since the first assignment is due on Friday! So far, so good - the reading is done and I have a draft of the first half of the assignment written. I'll be working on the rest tonight and giving it a final polish tomorrow after Brownies. This weekend has a number of projects on my to do list - need to get the windowsill fixed on the back porch, and I have two journal pieces to complete (complete, try start!) for the next gathering of the artsy fartsy girls.

Just because I want to share something, here's a little guy called Bluenose Bear - last year's Xmas present for my brand new nephew RJ.

time to get organized

I've decided if I'm going to blog, I need to be somewhat organized about it! Three months between posts is just a bit too long! So, given everything else in my life that conspires against finding time to write, my plan is to post something every weekend, even if it is just a line to say I'm still here!

I'll be back later this weekend with some more quilting pics - I've got a bunch of projects on the go and some of them really need to be finished before our first guild meeting that is only 4 days away. But for now I'll leave you with a picture of one of my journal exchange pieces - the theme was flowers.

I can't believe it's taken three months to add a second post but if a full bathroom renovation and new front step construction while working full-time isn't a good excuse I don't know what is!

Mind you, I've managed to finish one project this summer - this is a fractured landscape using techniques taught by Deb Plestid (if you've got the time visit her website, she has some fabulous quilts to drool over!) This is an old church somewhere near Maitland NS, what do you think?

welcome....

So to start off, hi! and welcome to my blog - I figured it was time to have a place to share what's happening in my life (bits and pieces anyway) and especially in my studio space. To start you off I thought I'd share a glimpse of what it looks like at this moment in time, yes it usually is this messy!
